Celebrating the Arrival of Summer.

The school program went off with only a laughing spell after a mic malfunction. The kids did an amazing job. Since our song leader is leaving us to give of time in the mission, we surprised him with a song at the end of the program. I’m not sure how it sounded given there were few dry eyes among us. and with that, my time as part of the ROA faculty has come to a close.

Life is expensive so I got myself a summer job at a bakery. It is a small place with a drive thru window and very good company. I work with the M&M’s, Marthee and Miss Molly. We have a party making brownies and muffins and serving customers and celebrating every time we get a tip. We have serious conversations around the big table as we feast on Arby’s or other delicacies during our lunch hour or joke about random things. Some days after a dramatic washing episode, the floor gets mopped extra. A blueberry muffin occasionally has a random chocolate chip in it on total accident and the frosting on the doughnuts likes to fall through the middle hole and cover my hands in icing. Although being to work around 5:45 is not always a fun prospect, I actually enjoy the quiet drive to work with few cars on the roads and how pleasant it is to have the work day completed by 2:30 in the afternoon! If anything it is teaching me to get up early:)

Let me tell you about a recent experience. As 2 for $5 said, “Let’s make some memories for the blog.” And that is exactly what we did. Since 2 for $5’s folks were going to be gone, Slipper sister, Mal, and I went over to her place for the night. It was decided that we would try the “deaf, mute, and blind” cooking challenge. As the a certified yapper, I thought it would be fun to take on the mute challenge. My accessories consisted of clear tape and a scarf. 2 for $5 was the blind of the three and had a headband about her eyes. Slipper sister took the deaf part with earbuds and earmuffs. I was in charge of “reading” or more like motioning the instructions to the deaf, who in turn told the instructions to the blind who then acted on them. All was going quite well when an egg was very throughly cracked and splattered all over a victim and the kitchen in general. Poor Slipper sister still had egg in her hair the next morning. The “brookies” (brownie/cookies) turned out very nice and surprisingly they were delicious. It is safe to say that we made memories.

I shall mention the weather since it has not been the happiest. One day it will rain non stop and the next the sun will shine but the wind blows enough to give it that chill feel. Where is the summer weather? I think it got lost in the mail somewhere. Fingers crossed that it eventually warms ups and we can start spending some time in the outdoors.
