My Ways are Known to Him.
Kansas Things:
1. Volleyball is a big thing. People can get pretty fired up and competitive. It is quite fun!
2. Hardee’s is criminally offensive according to some people and heavily disagreed with by others.
3. Don’t wear ball clothes to abandoned missile silos after it has been pouring rain as you may ruin your lulus and ball shoes:)
4. The dry heat feels so much better than the humidity I am used to at home. The weather has been absolutely delightful.
5. Mustaches and bangs. Yes or no? Big topics lately!
6. According to one youth guy, my co’s car is hedgehog blue.
7. A frequent saying is “That’s crazy.”
8. Wichita is actually quite a fun town. There is an adorable little coffee shop called Coffee Daze. It has good vibes and delicious drinks and it seems to be a favorite for everyone. Scheels is such a joy for water bottles in hundreds of colors and occasionally a paddle board. You might meet a handful of people that you share a religion with and occasionally more than a handful on a Saturday evening. The airport situation can be a bit sticky though. Some days you make your flight and other days your flights get cancelled and you spend an extra day.
9. The Country Store has so much pretty linen. I love it! It might be a little hard on the pocketbook:)
10. Double check when you walk unto a porch and the door looks open. You just might face plant the screen door!
11. In a little over a week, the UC teachers have been invited to six different ball games at six different congregations. It feels like you can decide what kind of volleyball you want to play and go there!
12. I love all the little things about school. The note that says “You are the Best Teacher” and all the “Good morning, Miss Miller” when they walk in the door. The high-fives at the end of the day and the excitement that spills out of them when they walk in the front doors are what makes my job so rewarding.
13. One of our youth guys is convinced that guys don’t have as much drama as girls. It is funny to see them dramatically discuss how they are drama free:)
14. Owala water bottles are the drink carrier of the school year.
15. The children love to give high fives. I tried to give fist bumps but they do not like those as well:)) What precious souls they are!
Enrollment night! The children arrived with backpacks and tote bags full of all the fun things. I shook hands and forgot names and chatted about all the things. The hustle and bustle built up excitement for the coming year. The board wives arranged a lovely supper and the cafeteria was filled with voices and laughter. Later we sat in the upper classroom and had the first official school board meeting. I think it is going to be a good year.
The first day of school dawned beautifully. It seemed to pass in a blur. There was a lot of coloring that went on since the first lessons were fairly easy. We are now into the second week of school and it has been going well. My children are starting to show their personalities and are more comfortable with me and each other. I love this little life and these people. It is starting to feel like home❧
Through all the changes in my life, there is one constant. While in the process of moving and getting settled somewhere new, a song has been an inspiration and comfort. The words of the first verse and chorus are as follows: “In days of peace and days of rest, in times of loss and loneliness, through rich or poor, Your word is true that all my ways are known to You. (Chorus) And oh, what peace that I have found wherever I may be. For all my ways are known to You, Hallelujah, they are known to You.”
