February Musings.

The 100th day of school was upon the Kidron school quite quickly it seemed. It brought with it white poster boards filled with one hundred objects of the artist’s choice. From pennies, pasta, dried flowers, coffee beans, pop can tabs, and tea bag tags, the walls were soon filled with colorful creations. First recess was spent searching for 100 hidden candies. The school board wives had been quite creative with the candies hiding spots. When the day had reached its completion, we were served some delicious cupcakes and party mix. I believe all throughly enjoyed the day!

Ice storms are dangerous, but the aftermath of the landscape is quite majestic. The trees glisten with the raindrops frozen mid drop. The guard rails along the road have rows of shining icicles like men marching in straight little rows. The grass crunches underfoot and the gravel looks like a lake of shimmering water. Thankfully the roads have escaped the ice cocoon and are dry and safe to drive on.

A quick trip was made to visit the big sister in Kentucky. The traffic was terrible with there being car wrecks and clean up crews and construction all along the way. I played the Glad Game and thought that I would rather sit in a 45 minute traffic jam instead of being the “jam” they were cleaning off the highway. A fun Saturday was spent kiting around the skating rink and getting some shopping in. Who can go shopping really though when one is making car payments? ;) Teehee! Supper was Texas Roadhouse with some youth friends and a jaunt around Target afterward. Random side note: How do you like to eat your steak? Some in our group thought that having it rare was the best. The very raw steak that appeared from the kitchen did not look that appetizing and the boy whose steak it was, said it was a little too raw for his liking.
It was so good to sit in the Mortons Gap church again. The sun shining through the pink stained glass windows makes it feel so cozy and the small audience seems homey compared to the 200+ member Sundays I am used to at home. For lunch the sister and I stopped at a Mexican restaurant. “How are you, amigas?” The friendly waiter asked. All too soon it was time to hit the road again. This time, since it was Super Bowl Sunday, the roads were clear and I was able to cut off thirty-five minutes of the trip. I got home in time to eat some snacks with the family and how wonderful it was to fall asleep in my own bed. All good things must come to an end. :(

The revival season is upon us and this year I actually looked forward to them. How good it is to hear the truth and realize that there are things that I need to change in order to have this abundant life they talk of. To know that each message has a little something for me and every person in the audience. As the song reads: “I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back.” Especially that last phrase, there is no turning back. The path ahead looks easier to face with such a Friend by our side.

An inspiration in a song the presing sang before a revival evening: “Dear God, I humbly now resign all things I have considered mine. I leave my future in Thy hands for Thee to do what Thou has planned.”
