The Passing of the Seasons.
The cold winter chill has settled into the world. The clouds are now our best friends and the sun seems to be shy. However, on the wedding day of my dear friend, the sun shown through in all its beautiful glory. God seemed to be placing His touch of beauty on that day.
What a beautiful sight Ohio is in the late fall! The glorious colors of the fall leaves and the crisp autumn air gives life and refreshment. And suddenly one week later, the leaves have fallen and the air holds a chill you can feel in your bones. It is November in Ohio. As a solar powered person, it can be quite hard to keep optimistic thoughts around when there is no sun involved. How funny it is that we look forward to wearing sweaters and drinking hot tea and when we are in that season, we look forward to wearing coats and scarves and skating on the ponds late at night. When we are in the middle on the cold and snow, all we want is spring and flowers and warm enough weather we don’t need coats and boots. And when it is spring, we are looking forward to softball and swimming and no jackets and sunshine all the time. And when we are tired of the hot weather, we want to start wearing sweaters and tights again. It seems to be a continuous loop. Maybe it’s just me or maybe you feel the same way. How can we find contentment through every season, all season? Why must we always rush headlong into the next thing?
On the topic of seasons, life seems to also take us as humans through different seasons. Oh the joys and precious memories of childhood! But when we are young, we are looking forward to going to school and soon we are school aged and just want to graduate. Once we have graduated, youth life can’t come fast enough and suddenly when you are in the middle of your youth life, all you want to do is move away from all the drama surrounding you. And then we are longing to be innocent young children without a worry or care. Isn’t that funny how that works? Just like the seasons of the year, it seems to be a constant hamster wheel. Once again, how can we find contentment through every season? How can we be more open to change? Change is something I am scared of. Sometimes it hits you like a waft of cold air when you open your front door. Other times it slips in quietly and we barely notice it is there until it is simply part of our lives. Most of the time, the changing of seasons is a beautiful thing. May we have the grace to see that beauty and embrace every season of life we are in.
