Welcoming the Winter Days.

Welcome winter days! On Monday, January 6th, we were blessed with a snow day. I guess it was just a vacation extension. The snow looked glorious coming down so softly and yet its appearance was also very treacherous. I now need to leave for school much earlier so I can drive safely there or in case I get stuck behind someone who thinks that 20 mph is the safest speed to drive.

A latest little project: a quilt patch pullover. I searched in vain at the local thrift stores and no quilts were to be found aside from a red, white, and blue one adorned with the Stars and Stripes. I thought that it must be quite easy to sew a simple 8 point star myself. Home I went where I printed off a pattern and cut my fabrics accordingly. In the thick of the trenches, I learned that quilting is maybe harder than it looks. Some of my star points don’t perfectly line up but I call that “character.” I will say that it was altogether a fun experience except for the cramp in my hand after hand stitching all the white pieces to add detail.

Have you ever seen a 15 passenger school van do a donut? Neither had I until recently when a grandma decided she wanted to test that out in the school parking lot. It’s safe to say they were closer to large circles rather than donuts but it gave the teachers something to laugh over.

Report card Fridays may look like a drag to some, but at the Rock of Ages school, twelve o’clock Fridays mean piling into the freshly tinted Toyota and heading to a little cafe that is just a little to close to school. If it’s chicken tenders and fries (or pickle fries) or soup or a quinoa bowl, we get it to-go since my co’s are busy people! It’s quite nice to eat a takeout lunch at my desk and then get my books checked and lessons prepped for the next week.

A quiet evening at home was spent trying to get in touch with my artistic side. Air dry clay is quite fun with the $5 plastic tools from Amazon and a good book playing in the background. After making an assortment of fruit, blueberries, banana slices, kiwi, and lemons, and candle holders and tic-tac-toe, I attempted to make a little house. I recently bought the most adorable pottery house and since they are no longer in stock, I thought that I would try to recreate it. We shall see if it turns out since air dry clay sometimes has a mind of its own. :)

The card game Hot Seat can be quite entertaining with your youth group. Once again, it is crazy how well we know each other. Some answers were exactly the same! I will suggest that you play in a quieter area. We were playing beside an animated game of marbles and it was a little hard to hear.

    Overheard in Miss Nellie’s room:

- “My head is sore because I tapped on an icicle and seven came down on my head!”

- “I dreamt last night that I was on the Titanic and my aunt was all dressed up in fancy clothes and the light in our room was pink!”

- “I never liked oysters until I tried them and now I like them.” Isn’t that how it works? Sometimes you just have to try it to actually form an opinion.

- “I hit a cow pie when I was sledding and now my tail bone hurts.”

“We have cow pies in our pasture and it doesn’t hurt to hit them!”

  “Yes it does.”
