“Look. Miss Nellie’s sweater has ducks on it!” (A third grader to her friend)
I love sweaters with extra details. If it’s chunky knit flowers or sheep or bows or woven ducks, I think it is quite cute. However, I have always feared that people would make fun of me if I wore something like that, until recently when I seen a girl at school meeting wearing a sweater I’ve always wanted. My friend also thought it was cute and encouraged me to buy the sweater if I liked it. A few weeks later when I stopped at the store to buy it, it was not there. Instead, there was a beige knit sweater with small ducks on it. How adorable! I thought to myself. Now instead of letting what other people think of me sway my decisions, I wear my sweater without feeling self-conscious. Why did I think it was embarrassing to wear a cutesy sweater with a print? What a weird place my brain is sometimes! ;)
How stressful it must be to plan a wedding. A close friend is planning her wedding and she seems so chilled about everything! I know for a fact that I would be losing every brain cell in my head. I tend to stress out while getting ready for pretty much any event and especially if I am planning something. Usually everything turns out fine but I just have to be tight about everything until it’s over! Differing personalities I guess.
The weather in Ohio was beautiful and the trees were at their peek of beautifulness! Suddenly it was November and the weather returned to its cold dreary ways. Just the other morning the temperature was 39*F and it was windy and raining. Sometimes, moving south sounds delightful. Until there is a hurricane or tornado of course! With a wood wick candle lit and a cup of hot tea, this weather just quite cozy. What a wonderful world!
To my fellow teachers, do you have any fun ways to teach fractions to fourth graders? The concept seems to fly over their heads. If we talk about fractions in class, they seem to understand but I soon as I set them loose, they have absolutely no idea and mark random circles and circle random numbers. “Which fraction is bigger, 1/2 or 1/4?” I say. “Well obviously 1/4 because four is bigger. Right?” They ask. “If you divide a circle in half and another circle in fourths (I draw the circles and divide them on the whiteboard for my visual learners.) and take one piece out of both, with has less leftover?” “1/2?” Another thing of random interest, why do some children always answer declarative answers as questions? Somedays I really wonder if I am cut out for this teaching thing.
How much I love Fridays! Who doesn’t? Usually Fridays mean a weekend of cleaning and laundry and sleeping. This weekend, Kidron is having a wedding so NO sleeping or cleaning or laundry for me. I am excited though because old friends are appearing and it is a dear childhood friend’s wedding so there will be good times had and maybe some tears shed. How happy I am to see my friends with their favorite people. I hope he has as much fun growing old with her as we had growing up with her❧
Signing off. Catch you on the flip side!
